Katie and Jake were sitting across from each other in the fancy French restaurant. Katie was wearing a dark green dress. It had one strap slung across her shoulder while the other shoulder was bare. Her auburn hair rippled down in long curls and rested against her uncovered skin. The candlelight flickered in her dark brown eyes and her lips trembled ever so slightly as she remained transfixed on Jake. He was dressed in a suit, although he didn’t look as comfortable as Katie did. He shifted his shoulders and squirmed in his seat as he talked, but Katie found his manner sweet and the fact that he had made such an effort for her was endearing.
Beads of sweat formed on his forehead and he tried to covertly wipe them away. Katie reached her hand across the table and took his in hers. She squeezed it and he visibly relaxed.
