“You, you’ll do,” Dr. Garrett Barnes grumbled at me, shooing the other job candidates out of his home office.
“Don’t you want to look at my resume or even my references?” I asked, slightly offended.
“The job isn’t neuroscience, I’m sure you can manage to keep my house clean.”
“Considering the state of your house, maybe neuroscience is the easy gig, Doctor,” I snapped, and then immediately regretted it. Dr. Barnes was the premiere neurologist in the country and I’d just insulted him and his messy house.
“I do brain surgery, but the dishes do seem to be beyond me.” He chuckled softly.
Thank God he had a sense of humor. This job paid outrageously well and I wouldn’t have to take on other clients since managing his entire household would be a full-time job…and there were other benefits to being his personal maid.
