Karen is a recent high school graduate who is having a hard time adjusting to life after school. She has become a recluse, much to the worry of her mother, but upon the insistence of a friend Karen decides to attend a gig.
While there she rediscovers the world and when she’s handed a ticket to go backstage and meet the band she summons the courage to accept life and the opportunities it offers.

The sweltering summer heat invaded every room of the house. Karen was lying on her bed with an electric fan, although it didn’t seem to make any difference. She was wearing a small top and short shorts, both items of clothing were light but it felt as though she was wearing many layers of clothing. Even just lying there caused the sweat to stream out of her pores, and the ice had already melted in the drink she had just poured.
She looked out of the window at the blazing sunshine and groaned, feeling trapped in the small four walls. It had been a couple of months since the end of high school and so far things hadn’t gone as she had hoped they would. The sun had permanently hung high in the sky every day since she had graduated and she thought it was a sign of hope, but then she had been rejected from every college she had applied to and there seemed to be no suitable jobs…
