Danielle could feel the man’s gaze on her as she finished setting up her equipment on the stage, feeling the rising tumult of anxiety running through her veins. She licked her lips, trying to slow the rapid beating of her heart; it was difficult to feel calm or confident when she was playing her first show in a new city, when there was no one in the audience with whom she had any kind of relationship, other than her best friend who had come with her.
