Kelly kept her concentration on the mirror as she put the finishing touches to her makeup. The red on her lips was striking against her paler skin and after blotting the lipstick on a tissue she took a final look at her reflection before moving away from the dressing table. She stepped in a pair of heels then checked that the seams of her stockings were straight. Grabbing her bag from a table, she was about to leave her bedroom when the phone rang. She moved across to the bedside cabinet and picked up the handset to answer the call.
“Hello,” Kelly started.
“Hey gorgeous, can I interest you in a drink?”
Kelly laughed as she recognized the voice. “Sorry Gail, but I’ll need to pass on that.”
“You have other plans?” her friend asked.
