In the spring when the whole earth seemed to be soaked in either soft sunlight or shimmering rain, Sharon Levin took out all the implements needed for oil painting; she took out the linseed oil, the turpentine, the palette knives, brushes, and the stretched canvases. She arranged them all on a long table and just stared at them for a long time as if deciding what to do with them.
If one didn’t know that Sharon was indeed an artist, he or she might have assumed that Sharon was about to sell all of these items on eBay. Sharon, in fact, was simply running inventory checks in her mind, and once satisfied that she had most of the basics, she wrote down little notes on what she needed to buy. On a piece of paper she wrote red, blue, black.
With her three small words and even smaller piece of paper, Sharon began her walk down to the corner store, where surprisingly they carried the finest oil paints.
