I was going to be late. The usual morning routine had come to a crashing halt and I was going to be late. There was coffee to be drunk, make up to apply, clothes to put on, things to be done before I could walk out the door, catch my train, go to work and arrive at a time that would not cause my boss to have steam shoot out his ears. I was going to be late. I knew this. I heard the voice screaming in my head; “Clara, you’re going to be late,” and yet… I stood there, frozen, naked, in front of the full length mirror, looking at my body. Staring at my nakedness. My hands by my side, my eyes probing my flesh. Why?

I’ll tell you why.

“I think we should see other people.”

That’s why.

Seven words. Seven small words, spoken by my boyfriend of three years, while we undressed and got ready for bed in my apartment, in this very room I am now standing naked in, not eight hours ago.
