John’s attention was immediately captured by the woman who walked in, smiling in spite of the downpour, hauling a guitar bag over one shoulder. He had arrived a little early, and the woman — who he recognized from the flyers he had handed out — was hurrying in just as the doors to the bar opened for the general public, flushed from the February chill. She was an eye-catching woman: brilliant red hair, dark doe-eyes, and an infectious smile above a set of curves that would make a racetrack envious.
John had handed out flyers for the show, which he would be headlining, but somehow the impact of her startling, somewhat odd beauty had been diminished in the picture that had advertised her in one of the opening spots, an act from out of town. He sipped his whiskey and coke and tried not to be too obvious in his stares as she moved through the bar, finding the manager and bestowing her smile on him as she chatted.
