Louise is dissatisfied with all the men in her life. Due to all of her friends being settled down, the only men she has access to are the ones in her building but they are all so similar and mundane. None of them have any intrigue so she’s scared that she’s going to be alone for the foreseeable future.
However, when the company arranges a masquerade ball Louise becomes filled with excitement as she imagines meeting her perfect mystery man.

Louise gazed absently over the table at Stephen. She monotonously chewed the food while her mind wandered, although the spicy meat made her flush and her skin prickled with sweat. The Caribbean-themed restaurant was certainly unique but she wished she’d ordered something a little less spicy, and she hated the fact that the food made her more flustered than her date did.
In truth, she knew she shouldn’t have come on this date in the first place. Nothing about Stephen sparked any kind of desire in her, and she only came because she thought it would be better than sitting at home alone.
