Tom is the kind of man that Samantha has always wanted. Successful, handsome, he’s on the way up and everything she’s supposed to want. Why is it that the quiet, soulful man who makes her coffee is the one that makes her feel the way she wants to feel?
Samantha doesn’t know if she should follow her heart or her head, but it may be too late to make a decision.

He was early, as usual and Samantha was running late. While he waited for her on the couch, he would organize the stacks of books and magazines that she had strewn about in a way that she could never find what she was looking for again. He would look at his watch over and over, as if the five minutes were actually hours. Samantha ran out of the bathroom, hoping that this time would be the exception and he’d be dazzled.
He made a face, which was his typical response as well. “That’s what you’re wearing?”
Her palms were sweaty immediately and she smoothed her hands down the length of the dress she had chosen specifically because she thought he would approve. “I can change,” she mumbled.
“No, no, it’s fine, you look,” he paused, to search for the appropriate word, “fine.”
