The hostels at Jordan College were modelled from the apartments that dotted the hilly town side of Carville. Once you jammed the key into the old Yale locks that were standard throughout the whole five story building, you were greeted by a narrow corridor about five feet wide. The corridor then opened into a lounge-cum-sitting room on the side and a cluttered kitchen on the left. The kitchen was however well finished and the mica-reinforced overhead cabinets gleaned in the fluorescent light quite in contrast to the dull drapes that hung from the wide windows of the sitting room. The ceiling was too low and thus chandeliers were out of the question; short ceiling roses hung from every room except the kitchen which had a luminous fluorescent lighting. After the corridor broke into the two partitions, it continued into the far end and once again broke into three bedrooms, one on the left and two on the right.
